Chromium
Applications: Involved in glucose metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, proteins and fats. The average American diet can be chromium deficient, a fact which has been linked to high rates of hypoglycemia and diabetes.
Sources: Whole grains, meats.
Interactions: Eating diet high in refined and processed foods can result in a chromium deficiency. Taking antacids and calcium carbonate may interfere with chromium absorption.
Recommendations: Picolinate and GTF forms of chromium are thought to be more absorbable and effective.
