At the heart of every Emu Gold product is a gift discovered years ago by the Australian Aborigines. They cherished its health-giving properties and the bird was at the core of their culture, providing them with meat, feathers and leather. The Aborigines used the oil as “bush medicine.”
Today, many people with sensitive skin or with a low tolerance for skin care products have found that Emu Gold provides a natural approach to skin care and appreciate its remarkable soothing qualities. The oil provides exceptional moisturizing and nourishing properties without clogging pores.
Emu Gold provides oil that is certified by the American Emu Association (AEA), which has established quality control measures to ensure the quality of fully refined, ultra active emu oil. Emu Gold products help bring moisture and shine to healthy-looking hair. We also offer a line of Emu Gold body care creams to help skin feel hydrated all day long, and our Emu Gold PRC-7 cream (an OTC blend of emu oil with menthol, camphor, glucosamine/chondroitin, MSM, aloe vera and botanical extracts) provides soothing relief to irritated skin. It is light, non-greasy and won’t stain clothing.
Emu Gold is not just for topical use. We also offer emu oil in softgel capsules that contain the naturally-occurring essential fatty acids (EFAs) alpha-linolenic acid and linoleic acid as well as oleic acid (omega-9), the largest component of emu oil. Oleic acid is a monounsaturated fatty acid predominant in olive oil and some believe it’s responsible for the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet.
The emu is a flightless, prehistoric bird native to Australia. In the 1990s, ostrich and emus became popular as an investment that promised to diversify existing farming operations. Tom and Sharon Phelps invested in the emus in Plasterville, California as a business venture, selling birds, chicks and eggs. Scott Jordan, a farmer, purchased two birds from the Phelps and discovered over time that the oil helped his rosacea, which inspired him to create the Emu Gold brand in 1995.
Today, the line contains 16 products for both internal and external use. Nutraceutical acquired Emu Gold in 2013.
